Over the past year, as Paul and I have begun to immerse into the world of adoption, we have learned that strangers can make some very strange comments about adoption itself. Although we have heard a few, the one I heard tonight was so bizarre it made me laugh....
"You are adopting? Wow....I could NEVER take care of a child that wasn't really mine....."
Hmmm....people say the strangest things....just had to share!

Some people just don't think, eh! I just thought that I'd write on here - looking forward to watching your journey unfold from afar! Very excited and happy for you!! You guys are going to make GREAT parents.
you need to arm yourself with some come back lines.
A couple I've used
"I can't believe you just said that!"
"I don't know how to respond to that!"
puts the ball of inappropriate comments back in the other court so the offender is forced to think about what he /she just said....
Some good tips! Paul and I need to practice some of those...rather than letting our jaws hit the floor...hehe...
wow - it's amazing the things people feel are appropriate to say. Glad you can laugh it off. I think it's amazing that you and Paul are wanting to share your love with a very precious child. I think that the journey you guys are going through will make you appreciate and love that little one in a very special way. Good luck and glad that things are going well.
