A few pic from Erlangen and some observations...

Paul and I have successfully reset our clocks...woohoo! We went to sleep and about 10:00 last night...and both woke up wide awake at 3:30! However, we managed to get back to sleep until 7:15 this morning. We are heading for breakfast at the hotel and then we are going to spend the day in Nuremberg.

Although we didn't spend a lot of time out and about yesterday, we did go for a quick walk just before dinner. The first thing we observed was that most restaurants close very early (by about 6pm). We had to search awhile before finding a restaurant that was open, but managed to find a place....and we were the only customers there! Paul was able to sample his first local beer and we had enough left-overs for tonights dinners. :)

While we were walking, we noticed that we were the only fools wearing summer atire. It isn't very warm here...but definitely warm enough for shorts. Most people were wearing jackets...some of them winter jackets...with scarves and everthing! We were laughing at the fact that everyone could probably tell who the Canadians in the crowd were!

The other thing we had heard about, but are now very cautious about, are the sidewalks. The sidewalks are divided in two....one part for the walkers and the other part for the cyclers. Although the sidewalk is actually colour coordinated that way, we still have trouble remembering...and have had a few incidences where we were almost run over!

The best part of last night was the discovery that although most things here are very expensive, beer and chocolate are not! We had a great time eating chocolate, drinking a cold beer, and watching a movie last night...very relaxing.

Much to our delight, we discovered that our windows open all the way and we are able to lean out and look at what is going on down below. It was so typically European that is was fun!
More tomorrow about Nuremberg...
