On Friday, June 26th I spent about three hours on the phone begging a doctor to send the one piece of information that we needed to complete our home study. I was finally able to tug at someones heartstrings and she faxed the form to our adoption practitioner by noon. Unfortunately, our adoption practitioner was leaving for a family vacation that afternoon and wasn't able to send us the home study for us to review.
I came up with an idea that in the end worked out very well. Paul is off on Monday's and it therefore gave us the perfect opportunity to drive to Ajax together. We met our adoption practitioner at 11am at her new office and picked up the report. We then drove to Kelsey's, ordered some food, and then proceeded to read/edit/review our home study for the next three hours!! As many of you know, I do not have the patience to sit still for that long....but it needed to be done. It ended up working out well because we were able to hand the report back the same day, which will help to speed things along.
The poor waitress at Kelsey's kept refilling Paul's coffee as we took up a table for over three hours! When we were finished, we gave each other the biggest high-five and tried to get the feeling back in our legs as we left the restaurant. :)
I have to say that it is WEIRD reading about myself, Paul and our life together, all neatly wrapped up in 20 pages. I can't even find the words to begin to describe this experience....it is just bizarre. After reading the entire report and making some small changes, Paul and I discussed how much work had gone into the report. Over twelve hours of discussion with our adoption practitioner and many, many hours of filling out paperwork that at times made us balk at how intrusive the process is on a whole. In the end, we are just happy that we are another step closer to completing the adoption of our child.
Our next steps are as follows:
- find a peadiatrician for our child - the peadiatrician will help us review the medical report once we receive the referral
- continue to read the huge number of books about adoption and China that I have gathered and that I LOVE to read (thanks, Lianne, for getting me started!)
- start to get our paperwork together for our China dossier
- start to pay some HUGE bills to our adoption agency :)
