Ouch!!!

Paul - the one who NEVER gets sick and who has NEVER been to the hospital - ran out of luck this past Thursday.

He was playing his usual houseleague tennis late Thursday evening - when it happened. He ran one way for the ball, but it bounced off the net and changed directions. Paul tried to follow the ball, but instead he snapped the achilles tendon in his left leg.

He fell to the ground and thought that someone had hit him in the back of his leg/ankle. He called me at about 11:15pm - to tell me that he needed to go the emergency room at Southlake. So off we went. Thankfully, there was NO ONE waiting ahead of us - we got to see a doctor so quickly! Within two hours, Paul had been x-rayed, casted, and had surgery scheduled for the next morning.

He was admitted for the night and then around noon on Friday, he had surgery to repair his achilles tendon. It will take 10 weeks - ahhhhhh - before he can put any weight on his foot. That means 10 weeks on crutches and most likely 10 weeks off work. After the cast is removed, he will have at least 6 months of physiotherapy.

Our family and friends have been so helpful - lots of phone calls, emails, and even food that was dropped off. You are all so amazing!

Recovering after surgery...

Oh dear Paul! -- what are the chances of this happening now?

I'd hobble out and buy a lottery ticket!

Julia and I wish you a speedly recovery. There's more treats where those came from. Julia would hardly let me even sample to batch to ensure quality control -- "There for Paul," she insisted,
