Happy New Year!

This was the first year that we have celebrated Chinese New Year in our family. We are excited about integrating the Chinese culture into our new family identity. How amazing that we get to celebrate another set of holidays and traditions!

I have been reading as much as I can right now on the culture, but I know that there is so much more to learn. I have been leaning on Lianne and AM for tips on how they celebrate with the girls...

Anne Marie and Julia surprised us with gifts of Chinese New Year decorations and Hong Bao (red envelopes). I put up the decorations and smiled to myself as I thought about decorating next year, with Maelyn.

I wanted to recognize the holiday and celebrate with my students, but with 32 of them, there were just too many envelopes to put together! Instead, I had the students create their own Hong Bao. We discussed Chinese New Year, it's significance and traditions, and then started with our crafts. When they were finished, each student received a 'gold coin' to put in their envelope.

On the 14th we went to the Mandarin to celebrate with our friends. I put together envelopes for everyone (with a few little treats), using the ones that we received from AM. They were a big hit!

Happy New Year! I have a feeling that this year is going to be a great year!!

Book us in for the moon cake baking extravaganza too!!! (Our version of moon cakes are still Bryanna's very favourite and most often requested treat.)

So much fun seeing your excitement!
