I like to celebrate in a big way with my students. During the month of December, many of my literacy activities revolved around celebrations from cultures around the world. We end our study with a look at Christmas and it's many traditions.
On the last day before the break, I cook a big breakfast for my students. Pancakes, whip cream, bacon, muffins, oranges, etc. We eat a feast - wearing our Christmas pyjamas, of course! I read them a few Christmas stories and we listen to Christmas music. Then, the anticipated gift exchange! Students pull a name and make each other thoughtful gifst - some add a few small purchased items. The kids looooove that part! Then, we settle in for a movie and snacks. It is honestly the best day!
Although this year was crazy busy, I still managed to get ready for the day. It was the break that I needed - enjoying the time with the kids. It is what Christmas is all about!
