China & Travel Timeline

Last Wednesday Paul and I received another phone call from our adoption agency. During the call, we were given a better idea of when we will be traveling to China to be united with Maelyn. Right now it looks like our travel to China will happen sometime near the end of May, possibly the middle of June. Our travel time will be confirmed around the end of April.

We know that the wait until we get to hold our daughter in our arms is long, but we are filling our time with preparing for her arrival. We wanted to highlight our daughter's (wow - still can't get used to that) province - enjoy!

Maelyn is from the province of Jiangxi. It is located in Southern China, with many mountains and fresh water lakes. Jiangxi has a population of around 40 million people. More specifically, Maelyn is from Shangrao, a city within Jiangxi.

Shangrao City is located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province, close to the borders with the provinces of Zhejiang in the east and Anhui in the north, while Fujian province lies to the south. The city's immediate neighbors within Jiangxi are Jiujiang, Nanchang, Fuzhou and Yingtan.

Hills and low to medium high mountains are the main features of Shangrao's landform. It is separated by Mt. Wuyi from Fujian Province in the south. In addition, it has Huaiyushan Mountains in the central region and offshoots of Mt. Huangshan in north boundary area with Anhui Province. There are rivers crisscrossing to the west of Shangrao with a scattering of many lakes. The soil is fertile in the famous Poyang Lake Plain.

With a humid subtropical monsoon climate, the city experiences a lot of rainfall and sunshine. Spring and autumn seasons are shorter with longer winters and summers. It is said that June to October is the best time in which to visit Shangrao. We, however, are little nervous about how hot it will be when we are in Shangrao!

We cannot wait to be able to visit our daughter's province and city. We are looking forward to becoming more familiar with and even immersed in her culture and it's history. We are blessed.

Love it! Our daughters are neighbours, as the dynamic duo are both from Anhui province to the north. In fact, some of our group are travelling to Mt. Huangshan on our trip this March...we'll be so close to Maelyn!

MacLean is from Jiangxi province in Duchang County. you will probably have to go to Nanchang where we were. How fun, I had tears when I opened your Christmas card. Merry, Merry Christmas and we all can't wait to see and meet Maelyn.
Take care,
