I feel as though this home study adventure will never end!!
Paul and I headed back to Ajax last Monday evening for our final visit with our adoption practitioner. It felt wonderful knowing that we were about to wrap up another 'chapter' in our adoption process, bringing us one step closer to our little one. :)
The meeting went well and the York Region Children's Aid information check had finally arrived! The last hurdle was getting a specialist information sheet in the mail. Apparently, the doctor mailed the information two weeks earlier, but it had yet to arrive at our adoption practitioner's office.
I subsequently spent the entire week calling the Doctor's office and trying desperately to get them to fax the information needed. Our adoption practitioner was heading on a week-long vacation as of noon on Friday and I really wanted her to be able to send the completed home study in the courier before she left. In the end, the information was sent by 1pm on Friday; too late to get the home study couriered.
In order to speed things along, I will now drive to Ajax on Monday the 6th to pick up our home study. At that time we will need to edit and review the home study and then I will drive it back to Ajax. Hopefully this will help to get things to the Ministry a little faster!
On a different note....Paul and I think that it is going to be really weird to read this document that is entirely about us. It is bizarre to know that someone has summarized our lives and written about lives and that we are then going to read this...and that we are going to be 'rated' on many different scales. So weird! However, I am grateful that Lianne recommended our adoption practitioner as she was very easy to talk to, kind, caring, and overall an excellent social worker. In fact, many of the friends we made at our PRIDE training course have now hired her to complete their home studies as well.
Our next meeting with our adoption practitioner will be in the Fall, when we receive our referral.
